Joyce Ogden is an accomplished visual artist, educator, and academic leader whose career spans more than three decades of artistic exploration, teaching, and institutional leadership. Based in Southern Indiana, she currently serves as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Rounsavall Dean at the Kentucky College of Art + Design (KyCAD) in Louisville.

Ogden earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Louisville in 1986 and her Master of Fine Arts from Indiana University Bloomington in 1990. Throughout her career, she has maintained an active artistic practice while demonstrating a deep commitment to arts education. In 2009, she joined KyCAD at its founding and has since played an instrumental role in shaping the college’s academic programs and educational vision. Her leadership has helped guide KyCAD's evolution from a fledgling institution into an accredited college of art and design offering seven distinctive Bachelor of Fine Arts programs.

Working primarily in sculpture and interdisciplinary art, Ogden explores the complex relationships between humanity and the natural environment, examining themes of place, time, memory, and ritual through material experimentation and careful observation. Her work has been exhibited at prominent venues, including the Speed Art Museum and the Cressman Center for the Visual Arts. Her artistic achievements have also been recognized through the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant Program and the Kentucky Foundation for Women’s Sallie Bingham Award.

As both an artist and educator, Ogden champions curiosity, hands-on discovery, and meaningful connections between creative practice and the world beyond the studio. Her dedication to mentorship and artistic innovation has inspired generations of emerging artists to discover their own creative voices and engage more deeply with the world around them. Through her teaching, leadership, and artistic practice, Ogden has made an enduring contribution to the cultural and educational landscape of Louisville and the surrounding region.
