
Dr. Guido M. Alvarez
Dr. Guido M. Alvarez is Chair of Graphic Design at Kentucky College of Art + Design. His teaching and research explore cross-cultural design, visual communication, transgressive design, and body art through an interdisciplinary, international perspective.
He earned a Ph.D. in Media, Art, and Text and an MFA in Design and Visual Communication from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he studied as a Fulbright Scholar. He also holds undergraduate degrees in Crafts and Graphic Design from Universidad del Azuay in Ecuador.
Before joining KyCAD, Dr. Alvarez taught at universities across North America, South America, Asia, and Oceania. His work has been recognized through exhibitions, publications, and design competitions, and he encourages students to approach graphic design as a culturally responsive practice that engages global audiences and contemporary social issues.
