Academic Support services promote holistic undergraduate student success at KyCAD through student-focused programming, success coaching, personalized research assistance, and tutoring.
Academic Support services take a proactive approach by creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every student develops confidence, a growth mindset, a strong sense of themselves, and is capable of self-led inquiry. Programming and resources promote the whole student's well-being. Students have direct access to support during Monday-Thursday drop-in office hours or by appointment. Services include:
Programming to welcome new students to KyCAD:
Fall and Spring Orientation for incoming Freshmen
This one-day program welcomes new students to the KyCAD community and gives them what they need to get off to a great start. Students meet with faculty and staff from multiple offices and areas to become acquainted with information and campus resources.
Fall and Spring “First-year Experience” for incoming Freshmen
During their first session, students participate in the First-year Experience – a short course to ease the transition to and integration into college life. Through group activities and discussions, the course offers strategies and resources for addressing common issues faced by new college students. With special emphasis on self-reflection, community building and becoming a BFA student, the course demystifies the academic world and empowers students to get the most out of their experience at KyCAD.

Study strategies
Time management tips
On-demand, when you need it, one-on-one tutoring with professional tutor:
Support in all disciplines
Writing assistance at all stages of writing, from brainstorming to final edits
Research assistance in virtual and physical library collections
Programming to welcome new students to KyCAD:
Students Together Every Wednesday (S.T.E.W.) weekly, lunch-time programming for all students
Students get together weekly during their lunch break to participate in varied programming and activities that connect to campus and community resources and create a supportive and inclusive place to learn.
A regularly updated professional opportunities board, listing competitions, jobs, residencies, etc.

Dr. Elizabeth Fairhead

Elizabeth Fairhead is an interdisciplinary scholar and award-winning teacher with experience teaching in multiple disciplines, including American History, World History, Interdisciplinary Humanities, Anthropology, and English as a Second Language.

She holds a Master Degree in Liberal Studies from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, NM and a Ph.D. in American Studies from Michigan State University. She has experience in scholarly and non-academic publishing and has worked as a tutor for students from ages 5 to 80.
