Kara Walker Exhibition and Talk Series

KyCAD is honored to present the brilliant works of Kara Walker. An American artist whose work has been considered the most complex and prolific of this generation. Her cut-paper silhouettes depict historical narratives of sexuality, subjugation and violence depicting scenes from the slave era. She presents the ongoing psychological effects caused by the tragic legacy of slavery through her drawings, paintings, shadow puppetry and sculptures. Kara’s candid investigation of race, gender, sexuality, and violence through silhouetted figures have appeared in numerous exhibitions worldwide.

“Her work leads viewers to a critical understanding of the past while also proposing an examination of contemporary racial and gender stereotypes.” (Walker Art)

Please join us in viewing these works at the 849 Gallery from 10/27 – 11/14/2020.
Due to new COVID restrictions this event is now postponed. Stay tuned for a virtual tour coming soon.
