Dr. Freibert is coeditor (with Dr. Alicia Kozma) of Refocus: The Films of Doris Wishman, a forthcoming book from Edinburgh University Press. He is currently working on a book manuscript that excavates a history of media industries run by women and gay men in 1970s Los Angeles. Dr. Freibert has presented at numerous conferences including the American Anthropological Association Annual Conference; the annual conference of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies; the FLOW Conference at the University of Texas at Austin; and the Film and History Conference at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

Dr. Freibert’s research fields include industry studies, media history, and LGBTQ+ cultural history. His media studies research has been published by scholarly venues such as Film Criticism, Flow: A Critical Forum on Media and Culture, and the Journal of Anime and Manga Studies. Dr. Freibert’s work in art history has been featured in Art Discourse and the quarterly journal of the Bob Mizer Foundation. He has also written columns for popular venues including The Advocate and Washington Blade.

Dr. Finley Freibert completed a Ph.D. in Visual Studies in 2019 from the University of California, Irvine. In addition to teaching at Kentucky College of Art + Design, Dr. Freibert is a Senior Lecturer in Comparative Humanities and associated faculty of Film Studies and Production at the University of Louisville.
