Dr. Doug Darnowski

Doug Darnowski is a biologist with a love for art, especially watercolors and cyanotype printing. He has worked on carnivorous plants for over 20 years and also has a project trying to make three-color cyanotype prints using a modified cyanotype chemistry. His lab discovered the first known carnivorous seaweed and the use of a chemical attractant by carnivorous corkscrew plants (Genlisea spp.) from South America and Africa.

His B.S. in Biology is from Yale and his Ph.D in Plant Biology is from Cornell. He has taught everything from Molecular Developmental Biology and Electron Microscopy to Environmental Science, Horticulture, and Biology and Art. His book on explosively pollinated Australian Triggerplants was illustrated with his own photographs and artwork, and he founded Sts Therese and Isidore Farm College to help teach practical small-farm skills and the Catholic faith.

He also has extensive experience doing freelance writing for textbooks, including nursing, emergency medicine, sports management, and the psychology of aging.
