Christopher Ottinger is a visual artist and educator. He uses various media technologies to envision new histories and alternative uses for technical objects, employing an “object oriented” approach to Media Archaeology. Most recently, Ottinger’s research has focused on interactive forms of new media and game design and their relationship to the history of moving image.

His art has been exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, including the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum, Laumeier Sculpture Park, the Museum London in Ontario, Canada, the Chicago Artists Coalition, ACRE Projects in Chicago, LACDA, and Bert Green Fine Art. Ottinger has also presented his scholarly research at conferences and symposia, including the Media Archaeology Institute at SAIC, the Pacific Northwest College of Art, and the Modern Language Association.

As an educator, Ottinger has taught filmmaking, sound, new media, media theory and art history at institutions including the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and College of DuPage.
